How The Cellar became Kigali's most-loved dining destination.

The Beginning

It started with a question.

When The Cellar opened in 2018, the question was simple: what would a restaurant look like if it was designed entirely around the guest's experience, not the operator's convenience?

The answer turned out to be a space that felt genuinely warm. A menu that took every course seriously — including the coffee. A bar that earned its reputation drink by drink. And a team that cared enough to notice when something wasn't right.

We opened with 40 seats in Remera, Kigali. Today we seat 80, host private events, run a full catering operation, and have been rated among Kigali's top restaurants every year since we opened.

We don't cut corners on ingredients, preparation, or service. If something isn't right, we fix it before it reaches you. Our suppliers are chosen carefully and changed rarely.

Great service isn't scripted. It's attentive without being intrusive, warm without being performative. We hire people who understand the difference and train them to be excellent.

How a room feels is as important as what's on the plate. The Cellar is designed to feel like somewhere worth being — not just somewhere to pass time while you eat.

We want guests to return because they already know what they're getting: something excellent. That requires the same standards at lunch on a Tuesday as dinner on a Saturday.

Every dish on our menu is there because it earns its place. We change and refine constantly, but we never add items just to appear comprehensive. Quality over quantity.

We're part of Remera, Kigali. We source locally where possible, employ locally, and consider ourselves invested in the neighbourhood that built us.
